C130 steel is a remarkable carbon steel for artisanal cutlery.

The advantages of C130 steel:

C130 is the low alloyed steel with the highest carbon rate we have in the range. Very appreciated by knifemakers for its high hardness it's not so ductile though. That is why proceeding to a selective hardening is recommended.  this grade is  it makes  possible to obtain pretty hamons (tempering line). Used as a welded cutting edge or as a San Mai core layer, C130 carbon steel is also very often  used in the manufacture of straight razors..

Carbon steel for artisanal cutlery:

This carbon steel grade is no longer used in industry and is becoming rare on the European market. Its low content of alloying elements requires water quenching, a critical process that is difficult to reproduce under industrial conditions. To limit the risk of breakage or cracking during quenching, consider using Thermic FGP, a quenching polymer with a cooling rate of up to 125°C/second.  Please note that this carbon steel is only available in limited stock.
