Colors and contrasts on your knife handles: Corby copper bolts to screw on.

In cutlery, the assembly of knife handles is an essential step for reasons of grip, sturdiness, but also aesthetics. Aesthetics with contrasts or nuances can be obtained with Corby copper bolts. Unless you are looking for harmony with a rosewood or amaranth handle: everything is possible.

One side screw, one side nut and a large diameter head.

Consisting of two Ø7 mm (0.28in) heads to be screwed on a Ø5 mm (0.20in) inaxle, the male part is screwed on the female part after having prepared the neck plates.
Although rather simple to use, Corby copper bolts require precision and meticulousness when preparing the assembly. Designed for a handle thickness of +-25.4mm (+-1.0in), some leeway is possible by reducing the height of the screw heads in reasonable proportions.

Principle of use.

The assembly with Corby copper bolts is done by preparing the parts to be assembled as meticulously as possible.
The final thickness of the handle is an essential element.
Two assembly options can be considered:
1) With visible screw indentations to, for example, facilitate future disassembly.
2) With grinding of the indentations for a rivet look.
Whichever option is chosen, aesthetic criteria play an undeniable role in this choice.
The first operation will be to drill the handle plates to the diameter of the axis of the Corby bolts to be screwed in, after having given them the rough shape.
Once the final thickness of the handle has been determined, the plates will have to be drilled again to create a housing for the Corby copper bolts heads with a shoulder where they will rest. For this type of procedure, a drill or a milling cutter makes the operation easier.
The rivet heads should be able to turn effortlessly while fitting snugly against the handle inserts.

Tip: The diameter of the screw heads can be reduced slightly by mounting the screws on a drill and turning them on a very fine abrasive, under water if necessary.

Careful attention must be paid to the depth of drilling of the rivet housings, as enough material must be left to moderately but firmly tighten the handle while having brought the Corby copper bolts to be screwed into contact with each other for perfect locking and retention. A depth drill guide is highly recommended.

All that remains is to cut the screw heads on each side, sand and polish the assembly for a sturdy and permanent fit.
This practical assembly system makes it possible to mount all types of knife handles up to 25.4 mm (+-1.0in) thick.

Aesthetic and robust.

After sanding and polishing, Corby copper bolts have the appearance of classic rivets with added strength to avoid any risk of breakage due to a falling knife, for example.
Corby copper bolts are particularly appreciated for the assembly of art knives. Their insensitivity to rust and a characteristic patina provide an additional elegance over the years.
