Nail quality" stainless steel cutlery pins.

Rivets for nail mounting of blades, plates and knife inserts.
Made from food grade X6Cr17/AISI 430 stainless steel, these non-hardening stainless steel cutlery pins are specifically designed for nailing. Used in the annealed state, they can be cut to size and perfectly matched with or without washers.

Diameters adapted to the assembly.

With diameters of 2 to 2.4 mm (0.079in to 0.094in), these stainless steel cutlery pins are used for mounting plates and handles (Ø2 and 2.2 mm-0.079in and 0.087in) and for fixing blades (Ø2.4 mm-0.094in).
Very economical, they can be cut to size, offer excellent corrosion resistance and are easy to polish.
Used with our Ø5 x 2.4mm (0.20in x 0.094in stainless steel washers of the same grade for reinforced blade attachment, they become virtually invisible after polishing.

A non-hardening stainless steel that is easy to work with.

The X6Cr17/AISI 430 cutlery grade is not hardened and is used in the annealed state.
It retains all its qualities of strength and corrosion resistance and has the advantage of being easy to work without breaking and without the risk of splintering when hammered.
With a chromium content of approximately 16.50%, X6Cr17/AISI 430 stainless steel is suitable for food contact and complies with current legislation for the manufacture of knives and articles likely to come into contact with food.

Which stainless steel standards?

In the absence of a single international consensus, the same grade of steel may be referred to by different names, which are all standards.
And it can sometimes be difficult to find one's way around and to be sure of choosing the right grade.
As far as our X6Cr17/AISI 430 stainless steel cutlery pins are concerned, the stainless steel of its composition can also be found under the names 1.4016 or Z8C17.
However, it is the same stainless steel with exactly the same characteristics.
1.4016: European coding for a nickel-free ferritic stainless steel containing approximately 17% chromium (food grade).
Main standards :
- AFNOR (France): Z8C17
- DIN (Germany): X6Cr17
- AISI-SAE (USA) : 430

How to use our X6Cr17/AISI 430 stainless steel cutlery pins?

First of all, it is not necessary, and even inadvisable, to cut the rods to the approximate length of the pins to be installed. They will be cut on demand during assembly for reasons of economy, but also, and above all, to avoid any error in length.
Once all the parts of your knife are shaped, roughened and drilled, the first step will be to assemble the plates and the spring with Ø2 or 2.2 mm wire.
Insert the rod, leaving just enough length on each side to be able to mate the ends with a small hammer, avoiding creating too much excess thickness, but enough to hold the assembly together.
Then proceed to the assembly of the handle, the blade and possibly the other accessories (bolsters, corkscrew, second blade, awl, etc.) by inserting the stainless steel wire corresponding to the diameter of the drillings (Ø2.2 mm for the handle and bolsters and Ø2.4 mm for the axes of blades and mobile accessories).
Cut the necessary length of wire once it is inserted in each of the holes, leaving a few millimetres on each side.
At this stage, no pins are set or permanently fixed so that a perfect fit can be made.
Be careful not to forget any element during pre-assembly to avoid any unpleasant surprises on the length of the pins, and in particular if bushings are planned on the axis of the blades.
Once the parts have been fully adjusted and aligned, the stainless steel cutlery pins can be caulked by repeated firm but measured blows with a small hammer, using a circular movement to give the pin head a rounded shape (knurling).
The principle of riveting with stainless steel cutlery pins is to swell their ends slightly so that they hold the knife together without blocking the moving parts (blades, corkscrew, awl, etc.).

Decreasing prices according to quantities.

Our stainless steel cutlery pins are sold individually by rods of 1 linear metre or in packs of 20 units by rods of 200 mm.
For frequent and regular use, the purchase of 1 linear metre rods in quantities of 10 units or more benefits from an automatic 50% discount.
