X153CrMoV12 is known by various names. Commonly called 1.2379 - or also D2 according to the American standard - it is widely used in the industrial sector. In order to guarantee the highest quality steel possible, we chose Böhler's K110 ( Voestalpine group), German and Austrian steelworks, well known for their technical and production quality. This grade has good toughness and excellent resistance to abrasive wear, so it is very popular for the manufacture of outdoor knives for which such properties are paramount. The re-sharpening is not very simple, but its excellent sharpness makes it a perfect choice for knife-makers making camp knives, tactical knives or hunting daggers. Although it has a relatively high chromium content (12%), this tool steel is not considered to be stainless steel because of its high carbon content (1.6%). Sometimes referred to as semi-stainless steel, it has only moderate corrosion resistance. Outdoor use will therefore require regular maintenance to avoid any unexpected oxidation. Regarding the thermal processing of 1.2379, it is carried out quite easily with oil or air using heat treat foil. It is possible to carry out a sub zero quenching (cryogenic). With appropriate thermal processing, D2 steel can reach 60-61 HRC
