How to find perfection in quenching under foil?
Cut to the size to be quenched, the stainless steel foil makes it possible to isolate it from the ambient air and thus to prevent any oxidation or decarburisation. It is critical to carry out a perfectly sealed folding, removing as much air as possible to ensure optimal result. Make sure you will not pierce the foil by pressing it too hard on sharp edges.
Some knife-makers leave small pieces of paper tissues with their blades in the s. On burning it, CO2 is generated that will eventually expel the remaining oxygen present. To preserve this protection, the blade, once out of the furnace, will be quenched with its envelope.
