Traditionally used in violin-making, notably on the famous Gibson brand Les Paul guitars, flamed maple wood (also known as curly maple) owes its appearance to the deformation of its fibers as it grows. The result is simple, sober and elegant scales with a slightly wavy surface. Since curly maple is a natural material, the appearance of the wood can change from one pair of scales to another.
