Crucible CPM S45VN knifemaking steel, for exceptional blades.
CPM S45VN is a grade developed by the American company Crucible Industries, which has specialized in the manufacture of special steels since its foundation in 1876. This grade is the result of a know-how and a requirement recognized throughout the world.
CPM S45VN, a combination of alloys studied for the best steel quality.
The CPM S45VN knifemaking steel is a martensitic stainless steel manufactured by powder metallurgy, designed to offer corrosion and wear resistance superior to those of the CPM S35VN grade, also developed by Crucible Industries. CPM S45VN provides excellent edge retention and impressive corrosion resistance. CPM S45VN is also a powder metallurgy grade, which is very pure and can reach high hardnesses depending on the heat treatment.
How to harden and temper the CPM S45VN grade ?
You can find all our temperatures and advice concerning the heat treatment of CPM S45VN in its technical data sheet, which can be consulted and downloaded freely on our website. To quench CPM S45VN, it is necessary to carry out a rapid cooling, in air or in quenching oil. Deep freezing allows to reach the highest hardnesses allowed by the grade (up to 62HRC).
