CPM S90V is a grade developed by the American company Crucible Industries, renowned for the quality of its special steel grades. CPM S90V is produced by powder metallurgy (hence its name, CPM meaning Crucible Particle Metallurgy), which guarantees incomparable fineness and purity.
CPM S90V, ideal for bushcraft and outdoor knives.
The Crucible CPM S90V grade is ideal for making bushcraft and outdoor knife blades. Indeed, its high Vanadium content gives it a truly exceptional wear resistance, in addition to an excellent corrosion resistance and a strong edge retention. Thus CPM S90V from Crucible Industries can easily replace D2 steel (Z160CDV12) for applications where corrosion resistance is mandatory.
Heat treatment of CPM S90V : what temperatures ?
You can find all our advice concerning the heat treatment of this exceptional grade in its technical data sheet, freely available online. CPM S90V can be hardened at high temperatures (between 1150 and 1175°C) and requires rapid cooling, either in air or in oil. Tempering CPM S90V is a crucial step that requires temperature control: tempering between 425 and 540°C may weaken CPM S90V and reduce its corrosion resistance.
