A ready to mount Mora carbon steel blade for your Puukko knife.
All the advantages of carbon steel in this ready-to-assemble blade: Excellent hardness after heat treatment which guarantees a good edge retention as well as wear resistance and easy resharpening.
This ready-to-assemble blade will allow you to create your own Puukko style knife.
Famous traditional Scandinavian knives, Puukkos are renowned for their simplicity, strength, hardness of steel and exceptional sharpness.
No machining is required as the heat treatment, grinding, sharpening and polishing is done by Morakniv, the world famous Swedish designer and manufacturer and official supplier to the Swedish Royal Court.
All blades are press-marked with the Morakniv logo, the words "Made in Sweden" and the type of steel (Carbon or Stainless).
Morakniv and Puukko knives.
Morakniv, the creator and manufacturer of these blades, has been established in Mora, Sweden, since 1891.
The company's speciality at the time was the manufacture of .... wooden snow sledges, traditionally pulled by reindeer.
It is easy to guess where Santa Claus lives in the world....
In Sweden, as elsewhere, craftsmen used to make certain tools themselves that they lacked for internal use.
Often made from salvaged materials, these tools had to be functional, simple and robust.
These qualities apply perfectly to the Puukko knife.
The Morakniv workshop was no exception to the rule, so that the knives they made were increasingly in demand as merchants and peddlers travelled around Sweden and throughout Scandinavia, even to the far north and the Arctic.
As a result, knife production overtook sledge production, which was gradually abandoned.
The term puukko originally means "knife with a wooden handle".
The Puukko is the traditional Scandinavian knife par excellence, whose existence dates back more than 2500 years, according to recent discoveries.
It is certain that, given the hostile environment and harsh living conditions, the Scandinavians had to be able to rely on robust, reliable and practical tools and weapons.
Simple and effective, the puukko knife originally has a strong, round handle made of elegant birch or reindeer antler, with a short, single-edged blade.
However, everyone is free to make the handle in the material of their choice or even to combine, mix and match materials (wood, metal, leather, etc.).
The shape of the handle will reflect the imagination of the cutler.
