Vanadis 8 has a very high alloy content with 8% vanadium and a hardness of 60-64hrc which makes it the strongest powder metallurgical grade in the Uddeholm range.
Ideal strength for heavy duty blades.
Vanadis 8 also has good toughness, which makes it ideal for making bushcraft and general outdoor knife blades. The combination of a very high carbon content with a large amount of chromium and vanadium results in a very large volume of chromium and vanadium carbides. This is what gives this grade its exceptional wear resistance.
Which heat treatment for Vanadis 8?
The Uddeholm Vanadis series can be processed using simple procedures. For non-stainless grades, even high temperature tempering can be performed. In this case, cryo is not necessary to obtain the maximum hardness allowed by Vanadis 8.
