What is the origin of the Damascus Ægir steel name?
In Nordic mythology, the giant Ægir personifies the sea and bears its name (Ægir means “sea” in old Icelandic). His 9 daughters personify the waves and his brothers are the wind and fire. Ægir is one of the giants but he is friends with the gods, even though traditionally giants are the enemies of the gods. He was invited to a banquet of the gods in Ásgard, the fortress city in heaven, and in turn he invited the gods and goddesses to Bifröst for a feast. Ægir and his 9 daughters brewed beer for this banquet in a huge cauldron and the feast brought him many compliments. The pattern of the Damascus Ægir™ DS93X™ steel is tumultuous like a sea agitated by the waves. But like the giant with whom it shares the name, it is able to adapt and suit all shapes and sizes of blades.
