Nickel belongs to the group of non-ferrous metals. It is white/silver in colour and naturally has a shiny appearance after polishing. Quite ductile and malleable, it is a material that is relatively easy to deform (rolling, drawing...). Highly resistant to corrosion and oxidation, nickel is not very reactive to acids.

Pure nickel for the manufacture of Damascus steel:

Pure nickel is highly valued in the manufacture of Damascus steel by combining it with another metal. Indeed, after etching it makes it possible to obtain very bright whites and therefore very contrasting Damascus steel patterns.

The limits of pure nickel:

This metal is in principle non-toxic but can cause allergies or itching during prolonged contact with the skin.
As nickel has a relatively low hardness, it is not recommended to use it on the edge of a blade. It is best used as a sandwich or with a welded cutting edge..
