This particular wood, native to Asia and scientifically called Pterocarpus indicus, is more commonly known as "dragon blood", in reference to the island where it was found. Its rarity makes it highly prized in a variety of fields, including cutlery, marquetry and veneering, because of its delicate, sophisticated patterns.

Black-stabilised Ambony burl scales for unique designs

These rare wood scales, with their truly distinctive aesthetic, have been stabilised with the inclusion of black dye. This transformation gives them, and the wood, deeply dark tones, further emphasising the natural characteristics of the material. But that's not all! As well as this unique appearance, stabilisation increases their durability through the use of NOVACURE resin. This not only protects the wood, but also prevents any discolouration. By using these inserts with Pelican Paste or other waxes, you can further enhance the sumptuous grain of this precious wood, which we are very proud to be able to offer you.
