Carbon steel made in Europe :
XC100 or 1095 is a simple but essential carbon steel for cutlery. This is manufactured in Europe by Böhler-Uddeholm (UHB20C), a steel company specialising in precision strip. Their technical know-how is recognized, it guarantees a very good quality and excellent homogeneity to this metal.
Manufacture of knife blades:
XC100 (1095) steel is used to manufacture blades requiring high hardness and razor sharpness. It is particularly appreciated for the design of straight razors. Being low alloyed, the XC100 lacks some ductility, so selective hardening is recommended to compensate for this. This grade also makes it possible to obtain very nice hardening lines (Hamon).
Perfect for damascus forging:
In combination with 15N20 or pure nickel, it makes it possible to create damascus with beautiful contrasts while maintaining good cutting quality.
Delivery condition and heat treatment of 1095 steel:
This cold-rolled steel has a very good surface finish. Like most of our grades, this reference is delivered in the annealed state in order to allow it to be processed without too much difficulty. It will then have to undergo the various stages of heat treatment to give it the desired mechanical characteristics. Due to the absence of chromium in the available batch, water or accelerated oil quenching like our Thermic FGP is recommended to obtain maximum hardness.
